OBS is a great tool for recording on a computer, and pairing it with the RØDECaster Pro II or Duo can open up many possibilities for audio recording. You can enable some simple Multitrack settings that will allow you to have individual outputs from your RØDECaster device into OBS. Just make sure you're on the most recent firmware version on your RØDECaster Device.
How to get your RØDECaster ready:
You will need to enable the multitrack output settings. This can be done on the device itself or in the RØDECaster App.
- Start by going into your settings menu, then select 'Outputs'.
- Next, you will want to choose the 'Multitrack' menu,
- Select 'USB1 Output' at the top.
- Chose your desired setting;
- If you want to control all levels in OBS and not on the faders, Enable Pre-Fader on this screen.
- If you want the position of the faders to affect the audio going into OBS, select Post-Fader.
- You will then need to go to the 'USB1 Input' section up the top of the same screen.
- Select the 'Expanded' Mode. This will allow your RØDECaster to communicate with the driver below.
How to get your computer ready:
To ensure OBS can see all the individual outputs of the RØDECaster Device, you will need to use the RØDECaster Virtual Devices Driver. You will need to install this and then restart your computer. It will not work unless you perform a restart after installing.
This can be downloaded here: https://rode.com/en-au/user-guides/rodecaster-pro-ii/virtual-devices
Once installed, it can be found in your system tray (Windows):
Now we can go into OBS and start to configure your audio sources.
Note: If you previously had OBS open or used it as a start-up application, you might need to quit the application and open it again.
Using OBS with your RØDECaster.
In OBS, we want to add new audio inputs. Go to the 'Source' panel at the bottom and select the '+' icon to add a new Audio Input Capture.
What input options do I have for OBS?
If you want a Stereo output of your RODECaster Device, then you would choose 'System (RØDECaster). This is the summed, all inputs, stereo output from your device into OBS.
If you want to manage and select individual sources from the RØDECaster device, then you can choose individual sources. You can then add multiple Audio Input Captures in OBS.
Below you can see some examples of the different audio sources. For example, Combo1 would be the first XLR port on the RØDECaster.
If you do not see an input in this list, please note; the virtual output into OBS will only see channels that are seen on your RØDECaster faders. So you need to ensure you have a fader assigned to the input on your RØDECaster, that you'd like to see on your computer.
Once configured, you will be able to edit and manage individual audio inputs from your RØDECaster Pro II or Duo in OBS.
