If your microphone is not working on your RØDECaster through the XLR input there are some troubleshooting steps to try.
This can happen with both dynamic microphones and condenser microphones. The steps below can help confirm whether the issue is related to the channel settings, monitoring, cable, microphone, or input port.
Check the Channel Controls
First, check that the channel has not been muted or placed into a monitoring state that may affect what you are hearing.
- Make sure the channel’s Mute button is not enabled.
- Check that Listen or Solo is not enabled on another channel.
- Speak into the microphone and check whether the level meter moves on the RØDECaster screen.
If the meter is moving but you cannot hear the microphone, the issue may be related to monitoring or output settings rather than the microphone input.

Test Using Headphone Output 1
To confirm whether the microphone signal is being received by the RØDECaster, connect headphones directly to Headphone Output 1.
- Connect a pair of headphones directly to Headphone Output 1 on the RØDECaster.
- Turn up the headphone level carefully.
- Speak into the microphone and check if audio can be heard.
Testing directly from the RØDECaster helps rule out external speakers, computers, software, or routing settings.
Check the XLR Cable
A faulty or intermittent XLR cable can prevent the microphone from passing audio correctly.
- Disconnect the current XLR cable from the microphone and RØDECaster.
- Connect the microphone using a different known-working XLR cable.
- Test the microphone again on the same channel.
Try a Different XLR Combo Input
If the issue continues, test the microphone on another XLR combo input on the RØDECaster.
- Disconnect the microphone from the current input.
- Connect it to a different XLR combo input.
- Assign the correct microphone type or preset for that channel.
- Speak into the microphone and check the input meter.
If the microphone works on another input, the original channel settings may need to be reviewed or reset.
Confirm the Microphone Type and Settings
Make sure the selected input type matches the microphone being used.
- Dynamic microphones do not usually require phantom power.
- Condenser microphones usually require phantom power to be enabled.
- If using a microphone preset, try selecting a different preset, then switch back to the correct preset.
If changing the preset restores the audio, save the channel settings again and restart the RØDECaster to check whether the setting is retained.
Update the RØDECaster Firmware
Make sure your RØDECaster is running the latest firmware version, as firmware updates can include performance improvements and bug fixes.
- Connect the RØDECaster to your computer via USB.
- Open the RØDECaster companion app.
- Check for any available firmware updates.
- Install the update if one is available.
- Restart the RØDECaster and test the microphone again.
Test with Another Microphone
If possible, test the RØDECaster with another microphone of a similar type.
- If you are using a dynamic microphone, try another dynamic microphone.
- If you are using a condenser microphone, try another condenser microphone.
This helps confirm whether the issue is related to the microphone, cable, input port, or channel settings.
