When using RØDE USB audio devices such as our RØDECaster series, Interfaces and USB microphones, certain applications and operating systems can apply noise suppression and/or vocal isolation to the incoming input signal by default.
When presented with input signal issues with these types of devices, it is important to consider these factors when troubleshooting.
Troubleshooting
In Windows 11 specifically, a feature known as "Audio Enhancements" can remove and dampen background noise, while focusing on what is detected by the system as your voice.
In some situations, this feature can be helpful. However, when wanting to record audio information other than vocals, such as music from your SMART Pads, it can lead to a muffled sound, or in some cases no sound at all.
In such a case, we recommend disabling Audio Enhancements within the Windows 11 system audio settings. This is a setting that is applied per device, so be sure to disable it within the properties of each USB input device you are experiencing issues with.
