If you hear a buzzing or humming noise from your monitor speakers when they're connected to your RØDECaster Pro II or RØDECaster Duo, the cause is usually related to cabling, grounding or electrical interference rather than the RØDECaster itself.
The troubleshooting steps below can help identify and eliminate the source of the unwanted noise.
1. Use Balanced Audio Cables
Whenever possible, connect your monitor speakers using balanced audio cables (such as TRS to TRS or TRS to XLR). Balanced connections reject electrical interference and are much less likely to introduce unwanted buzzing or hum.
2. Check Your Power Connections
Ground loops can occur when connected devices are powered from different power outlets or power boards, resulting in audible hum or buzzing.
To minimise the chance of a ground loop:
- Connect your RØDECaster and monitor speakers to the same power board or wall outlet.
- If available, use a quality power conditioner.
3. Check for USB Interference
USB cables can sometimes introduce electromagnetic interference, particularly if they're poorly shielded or damaged.
- Disconnect the USB cable from your RØDECaster.
- Check whether the buzzing noise disappears.
- If it does, replace the USB cable with a high-quality shielded cable.
- Keep USB cables separated from audio cables where practical.
