The De-Esser on the RØDECaster Pro II, RØDECaster Duo, and compatible products using UNIFY is designed to reduce excessive sibilance (harsh "S" and "Sh" sounds) while maintaining the natural tone of your voice.
How It Works
Unlike some traditional de-essers that reduce specific frequencies using EQ, the RØDE De-Esser uses a side-chain compressor.
It monitors the selected sibilant frequency range using the Frequency and Threshold controls. When harsh sibilance exceeds the threshold, the processor briefly reduces the overall signal level before returning it to normal once the sibilance has passed.
Why Doesn't It Show a Notch on a Frequency Analyser?
Because the De-Esser reduces the level of the signal rather than permanently removing frequencies with equalisation, you won't typically see a noticeable dip or "notch" when comparing the input and output on a frequency analyser or signal generator.
