If your RØDECaster Pro II or RØDECaster Duo is not triggering auto-switching correctly on your RØDECaster Video or RØDECaster Video S, follow the steps below to verify your configuration.
1. Verify the USB Connection
Auto-switching only works when the RØDECaster Pro II or Duo is connected to the correct USB ports on the RØDECaster Video / S.
- Connect USB 1 or USB 2 on the RØDECaster Pro II / Duo to:
- USB 4 or USB 5 on the RØDECaster Video
- USB 4 on the RØDECaster Video S
2. Check USB Audio Routing
The RØDECaster Pro II / Duo must be sending audio to the RØDECaster Video / S.
On the RØDECaster Pro II / Duo:
Settings > Outputs > Routing > USB 1 / USB 2
- Set the output to Main Mix or Mix Minus
- If using a Custom Mix, ensure the channels you want to trigger auto-switching are enabled
3. Verify USB Channels Are Enabled on the RØDECaster Video / S
The RØDECaster Video / S must have the incoming USB audio channels enabled.
To check:
- Press the main encoder
- Navigate to Channels
- Select Add or Remove Channels
- Confirm that USB 4 and/or USB 5 are enabled
If you see Maximum Channels Reached, disable unused channels before enabling USB 4 or USB 5.
You can also add channels using the + button within the Audio Mixer of the RØDECaster App.
4. Verify Scene Audio Configuration
Each scene that should respond to auto-switching must have the corresponding USB audio channel enabled.
If USB 4 or USB 5 is not active within a scene, that scene cannot receive audio from the RØDECaster Pro II / Duo and will not trigger auto-switching.
5. Check Auto-Switching Trigger Assignments
Open the Auto-Switching menu within the RØDECaster App and verify that each scene or video source is assigned to the correct RØDECaster Pro II or RØDECaster Duo channel.
RØDECaster Pro II and RØDECaster Duo channels are identified by a vertical grey bar, helping distinguish them from local RØDECaster Video / S channels.
For more information, see our article: Can I Use the RØDECaster Video Auto-Switching with my RØDECaster Pro II or Duo?
6. Enable Auto-Switching Mode
Auto-switching must be actively enabled before any triggers will function.
- Press and hold the Auto button
- Wait until the button turns blue
- Release the button
To exit auto-switching mode, simply press the Auto button once.
7. Verify Audio Levels
Auto-switching is triggered when audio exceeds the configured threshold.
Open the Audio Mixer and confirm that the incoming USB 4 or USB 5 audio is reaching the grey threshold marker beside the fader.
- Audio below the threshold will not trigger auto-switching
- Audio constantly above the threshold may cause unwanted switching
In noisy environments, consider reducing microphone gain or enabling a noise gate on trigger channels to improve switching accuracy.
8. Update Firmware and Factory Reset
If the issue persists, ensure all devices are running the latest firmware and perform a factory reset if required.
