Streaming issues with the RØDECaster Video and RØDECaster Video S such as delay, low resolution, buffering, or dropped frames are usually linked to network performance. In most cases, the root cause is an unstable or insufficient internet connection.
Before adjusting advanced settings, work through the checks below to rule out common network problems.
Network Check
Run an internet speed test and confirm your upload speed meets the platform’s requirements. As a general guide:
- 720p streaming: minimum 3–5 Mbps upload
- 1080p streaming: minimum 5–10 Mbps upload
- Higher resolutions require significantly more
If your upload speed is below the recommended range, reduce your stream resolution or bitrate, or contact your internet service provider.
Use a Wired Connection
Connect your RØDECaster Video directly to your router using an Ethernet cable.
Wi-Fi is prone to interference, congestion, and signal dropouts. A wired Ethernet connection provides:
- Lower latency
- Greater stability
- Reduced packet loss
For consistent streaming performance, Ethernet is strongly recommended.
Restart Your Router
Power cycling your router can resolve temporary network faults.
- Power off the router from power.
- Wait at least 30 seconds.
- Power on the router and allow it to fully reconnect.
This refreshes the connection to your ISP and can clear short-term network instability.
