In this article, we will discuss the challenges associated with connecting the RØDECaster Pro II and RØDECaster Duo to a stable Wi-Fi network for the purpose of using CallMe. This issue is particularly prevalent in managed public networks, where the connectivity requirements can be more complex than typical home networks.
What network types do we recommend? For the best results, we recommend using networks that are classed as WPA2-Personal.
What causes this?
Many university, offices or public Wi-Fi networks, including both primary and visitor access points, often necessitate a login process that involves entering a username and password (WPA2-Enterprise) or redirecting users to a unique web page known as a captive portal.
The RØDECaster Pro II and RØDECaster Duo are primarily designed to operate within simpler network environments, such as home networks, that only require a straightforward password for access. As a result, these devices struggle to navigate the more intricate login procedures found on managed networks, leading to frequent connection errors and frustration for users trying to connect their devices. This would also be the same case for more secure types, such as WPA3 networks.
What's the solution?
One of the most dependable methods to achieve a stable connection is by using an Ethernet cable. If you have access to a wired Ethernet port, plugging the RØDECaster Pro II directly into it can provide a seamless and robust internet connection. This option eliminates the complications associated with Wi-Fi logins and ensures that your device remains connected without interruption.
Alternatively, if a wired connection is not feasible, you can consider using your smartphone to create a mobile hotspot. This method allows you to leverage your phone's cellular data to establish a personal Wi-Fi network. The RØDECaster can connect to this hotspot effortlessly, bypassing the complexities of managed university networks and ensuring that you can use CallMe without any connectivity issues.
