Superior Audio Quality
RØDE CallMe delivers high-fidelity audio, significantly improving upon standard VoIP or typical phone calls by eliminating the characteristic "telephone sound." This makes it suitable for professional broadcasting, podcasting, and capturing musical performances, providing clear and rich sound for your remote guests.
Updating to the Beta Firmware (if applicable)
To update to the Beta firmware, ensure you have the latest version of the RØDECaster Companion App installed on your computer and that your RØDECaster is running the latest public firmware, then follow the steps in our article on how to get your device opted in for BETA updates: How can I access Beta firmware on the RØDECaster Pro II/ Duo.
Internet Connection Requirements
A stable internet connection is essential for all RØDECaster CallMe functions. You can connect your RØDECaster to the internet in the following ways: via Wi-Fi (connecting to a strong Wi-Fi network directly from your RØDECaster) or via Ethernet (connecting an Ethernet cable directly to your RØDECaster).
Connection & Call Management Features
RØDE CallMe offers intuitive ways to connect with remote guests, whether they have a RØDECaster or are joining via a web browser.
Assigning CallMe to a Fader
Just like assigning a microphone or USB input, you need to assign CallMe to a fader channel to control its audio.
- Tap the fader channel you wish to use.
- Tap the settings icon (cogwheel).
- From the source selection screen, choose 'CallMe'.
- Tap the green tick to confirm.
RØDECaster-to-RØDECaster Connectivity
Users can directly call another RØDECaster unit using a unique joining code. This establishes a high-quality, stable audio link between two remote locations.
Making a RØDECaster Call:
- Tap the 'CallMe' channel icon on your RØDECaster's main screen.
- Tap 'Call a RØDECaster'.
- Enter the other user's unique joining code. Your RØDECaster will connect once the recipient accepts the call.
Web Browser Connectivity (limited hours available for Lite users)
For guests who do not have a RØDECaster, CallMe provides a simple web client solution. The RØDECaster user can share a unique URL or QR code. The guest can join the session from their computer or phone's web browser by simply entering their name and granting microphone access, requiring no software installation on their end.
Inviting a Web Browser Guest:
- Tap the 'CallMe' channel icon.
- Locate the unique URL and QR code displayed on the screen.
- Share the unique URL and Code or the QR code with your guest.
-
Your guest will open the link in their web browser, enter their name, grant microphone access, and they will be live on your RØDECaster.
Hosting and Call Handling
A RØDECaster can be set to receive calls by enabling the "Hosting" function in the CallMe settings.
- Navigate to the CallMe settings.
- Ensure 'Enable call hosting' is toggled on.
- When someone calls you, a pop-up notification will appear on your RØDECaster screen.
- Tap the green tick to accept the call or the red cross to decline
You will then be prompted to assign the incoming call to an available CallMe channel. Green channels indicate readiness. If no CallMe channel is assigned, you'll be prompted to assign one to a fader.
Outbound Calling:
There are two primary ways to make an outbound call.
Calling another RØDECaster or joining a SIP call (SIP calls are only available to Pro subscribers).
To call another RØDECaster, simply select "Call A RØDECaster" and enter their unique code. If the other user accepts the call, you will them be able to monitor the call, change settings and more all in the channel settings.
Audio Management & Processing
Once connected, audio flows both ways – including microphones, USB devices, and sound pads. A mix-minus is automatically applied, ensuring no echoes for your remote guests.
You can fully tweak the gain and apply the RØDECaster's comprehensive channel processing to the incoming CallMe audio, including EQ, APHEX effects, noise gate, and more, to deliver perfectly polished studio sound.
