When you first receive the RØDECaster Video or RØDECaster Video S, the unit is ready to use out of the box. However, we recommend completing the steps below before recording to ensure the best performance and access to the latest features.
-
Update the firmware
- Connect the RØDECaster Video to a Mac or PC and update it using the RØDECaster App.
- This ensures the latest features, improvements, and fixes are installed.
- Firmware updates can also be performed via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or a mobile hotspot.
-
Insert a MicroSD card (RØDECaster Video only)
- A MicroSD card allows you to store media content directly on the unit.
- This step is not required for the RØDECaster Video S.
-
Set up video recording using USB storage
- Connect a USB drive to the USB 3 port on the RØDECaster Video.
- This is ideal if you plan to edit recorded content before re-uploading it to another platform.
Use a compatible SSD for recording
The RØDECaster Video supports external SSDs and other USB mass-storage devices connected via USB 3, allowing you to record high-quality video and audio directly to the drive.
Your drive must be formatted using the exFAT file system.
If your drive is not formatted as exFAT:
- Back up any existing files to your computer.
- Connect the drive to the RØDECaster Video.
- Go to Settings > Storage > USB Storage.
- Select Format.
Note: We recommend using an SSD with write speeds capable of handling simultaneous audio and video recording.
