If your RØDE product is not being detected by RØDE Central or the RØDECaster App when connected via USB, or a firmware update constantly fails, and you are using a work or company-managed computer, the issue is most commonly caused by your organisation's IT security policies rather than a fault with the product itself.
Many corporate and institutional computers restrict USB connectivity to prevent unauthorised devices from accessing company systems. These restrictions can prevent RØDE products from being recognised, even if the device works correctly on a personal computer.
Why Company PCs Block USB Devices
Corporate IT departments commonly apply the following restrictions that can affect RØDE product detection:
- USB Group Policy: IT administrators can block entire classes of USB devices (e.g., audio, storage) via Windows Group Policy
- Microsoft Intune/Endpoint Manager: Managed devices may only allow company-approved USB hardware to connect
- Driver installation restrictions: Admin permissions are often required to install new USB drivers, which RØDE products may need on first connection
- USB Selective Suspend: Power management settings on managed PCs can interrupt or drop USB device communication
- Windows Firewall / Corporate Firewall: Does not block local USB detection, but can prevent firmware updates from completing if outbound internet access is restricted. Both RØDE Central and the RØDECaster App download firmware files from RØDE's servers. If the corporate firewall blocks this outbound traffic, the update will fail or stall.
Note: If your issue is regarding firmware-related updates, we recommend testing on a different network (e.g., a mobile hotspot) to confirm whether a firewall or network restriction is causing update failures.
RØDE Central & RØDECaster app: Detection Issue
Does the detection issue with RØDE Central or the RØDECaster app only occur when using a work/company PC?
This is worth checking because, as mentioned above, many company PCs have strict security settings that can block or limit USB connections. These are usually applied to protect sensitive data and prevent unauthorised devices from accessing the system.
These features can affect peripherals like USB microphones, because the computer may treat them as external storage or unverified hardware. In some cases, IT departments disable certain USB ports or require admin permissions to install drivers.
How to Confirm the Cause
The quickest way to determine whether the issue is IT security-related or a hardware fault is to test on a personal device:
- Connect your RØDE product to a personal laptop or home computer
- Open RØDE Central or the RØDECaster App
- Check if the device is detected
If detected on a personal PC, the issue is related to your company's USB security policy. Contact your IT department and request that RØDE USB devices be safelisted.
If not detected on a personal PC, this may indicate a hardware or cable fault. If this is the case, please contact RØDE Support for further assistance.
