Are you finding the audio from your Wireless Micro to be too quiet or experiencing low volume when using Direct Connect mode? This article will guide you on how to increase the gain and explain why audio levels might differ compared to using the dedicated wireless system with the receiver (RX).
Direct Connect and Bluetooth
Direct Connect mode offers fantastic flexibility by allowing your Wireless Micro TX (Transmitter) to connect directly to a mobile device with RØDE Capture via Bluetooth. However, it's important to understand how this differs from using the dedicated receiver unit (RX).
The Wireless Micro system is optimised for the highest audio quality and strongest signal when the TX communicates with its paired RX using their dedicated 2.4GHz wireless connection. This connection is tailored for pristine audio transmission.
Bluetooth audio, while convenient, can sometimes result in a lower initial audio signal compared to this dedicated 2.4GHz, as well as a reduced range. This is a common characteristic and not necessarily an issue with your microphone. For critical recording situations, defaulting to the RX often provides the most predictable and long range results.
Adjusting Gain
Adjusting the gain of your Wireless Micro is important for ensuring you have the right signal level in your recordings, especially if you're noticing low volume in Direct Connect mode. When you're in Direct Connect mode with RØDE Capture, you can easily adjust the gain of the connected Wireless Micro TX by following these steps:
- Click the microphone icon in the top left corner of the RØDE Capture screen.
- While speaking into the TX at your normal recording volume, adjust the input level fader.
- Ensure the loudest parts of your speech stay consistently within the green zone of the level meter. Avoid letting the meter peak into the red, as this indicates clipping (distortion).
