The RØDECaster Video supports webcams and similar USB video devices that use the UVC (USB Video Class) standard when connected to USB 4 and 5. When connected, the RØDECaster Video will power the UVC device and recognise it as a video input, allowing you to use it just as you would one of the HDMI inputs.
The RØDECaster Video only supports devices that can provide an uncompressed UVC signal with a minimum requirement of 1080p24. Uncompressed formats are typically specified as YUV or NV12, while unsupported (compressed) formats are typically specified as MP4 or H.264. This is to guarantee the best quality video coming into the RØDECaster Video, to better match the HDMI inputs.
To check if your webcam or device is compatible, we recommend looking up your product’s technical specifications.
First, check if your device is capable of outputting an uncompressed stream (either YUV or NV12), and then ensure it can do so with a minimum of 1080p24.
- If this isn’t clear from the specifications, we recommend reaching out to the manufacturer for confirmation.
Below are examples of UVC devices that we have tested and can confirm are compatible with the RØDECaster Video’s USB inputs (4 and 5). Any device that is able to provide a minimum 1080p24 uncompressed UVC video stream will be compatible.
