If you find that ambient noise, such as the hum of an air conditioner, street noise, or the clatter of keyboard clicks, is clearly prominent in your live streams or gaming sessions, it's essential to address this issue systematically depending on the setup.
Audio Processing
Firstly, consider implementing a noise gate as part of your audio processing setup. This audio processing technique selectively attenuates audio below a predefined threshold, effectively muting unwanted sounds and permitting only audio surpassing that threshold, typically your voice, to come through clearly. This can be done with the onboard audio processing if you're using the RØDECaster Pro, RØDECaster Pro II, or RØDECaster Duo directly.
Microphone Technique
Secondly, pay meticulous attention to microphone placement. Ideally, position the microphone within the range of 5 -10 cm (2-4 Inches) from your mouth. This placement ensures that when adjusting the microphone gain, your voice remains the predominant audio source. Using a microphone boom, such as the PSA1+, can be particularly advantageous in achieving this optimal positioning without compromising your desk space.
Condenser vs Dynamic Microphones
It's worth noting that condenser microphones, due to their heightened sensitivity, tend to capture more environmental noise when compared to dynamic microphones. To mitigate the impact of such ambient noise in noisy environments, consider opting for a dynamic microphone, such as the PodMic or Procaster. Dynamic microphones are more forgiving and better equipped to isolate your voice amidst challenging acoustic conditions, enhancing the overall audio quality of your live streams or gaming sessions.
