If your microphone is not working correctly with the AI 1, follow the troubleshooting steps below to confirm your audio settings and hardware configuration.
Check the Windows Sample Rate
Ensure the playback and recording sample rates are set to the same value. We recommend using 24 bit, 96000 Hz.
- Open Sound settings in Windows.
- Select the Playback tab.
- Select RODE AI 1.
- Right click the AI 1 and select Properties.
- Open the Advanced tab.
- Select your preferred sample rate.
- Repeat these steps under the Recording tab and ensure both devices use the same sample rate.
Enable Phantom Power
If you are using a condenser microphone that requires 48 V phantom power, make sure it has been enabled on the AI 1.
- Press the left control knob on the AI 1.
- Confirm the red P48 LED is illuminated.
Test the Microphone with Direct Monitoring
Direct Monitoring lets you hear the microphone directly through the AI 1 without using recording software. This helps determine whether the issue is with the microphone or your software settings.
- Connect a pair of headphones to the AI 1.
- Press the right control knob to enable Direct Monitoring.
- Confirm the white headphone LED is illuminated.
- Speak into the microphone and listen for your voice.
If you can hear the microphone through Direct Monitoring, the AI 1 and microphone are working correctly. The issue is likely related to your recording software or operating system audio settings.
