We will guide you through the process of installing a 5-pin XLR connector to the Broadcaster microphone. The Broadcaster microphone with the 5-pin connector is designed to be connected to consoles that support an On-Air Indicator control.
The On-Air Indicator LED is switched either On or Off by applying an open or closed circuit across Pins 4 and 5 of the output connector.
While the Broadcasters’ output connection and On-Air Indicator control is a very simple operation to perform, we suggest that unless you are familiar with cable connections and audio installations in general, that you have an Audio/Electronics Technician perform this task to ensure optimum performance.
The circuit diagram is located in the product manual attached to the bottom of this article.
- Start by unscrewing the base cover of the Broadcaster. This is usually the part with the Serial number engraved on it.
- Next, remove the 2 screws located on the side of the Broadcaster.
- Unscrew the existing 3-pin XLR connector from the Broadcaster microphone. This connector needs to be removed to install the 5-pin XLR connector.
- Next, gently pull the 3-pin XLR connector away from the housing. Take care not to damage any wires or components during this process.
- Once the 3-pin XLR connector is detached, you will need to unsolder the 3 wires from the XLR pin connections. This will allow you to replace them with the new 5 wires required for the 5-Pin XLR connector. Additionally, solder 2 extra wires to the back of the PCB and connect them to inputs 4 and 5.
- Solder a jumper wire from Pin 1 to the grounding tab. This is an important step to ensure proper grounding of the microphone.
- Now, it's time to solder all 5 wires to the 5-pin XLR connector. Take your time to ensure each wire is securely soldered and properly connected to the corresponding pin.
- Once all the wires are soldered, gently insert the 5-pin XLR connector into the housing. Make sure it fits snugly and aligns correctly with the microphone body.
- Finally, tighten the screw to secure the 5-pin XLR connector to the housing. Double-check that all connections are secure and properly soldered before using the microphone.
By following these steps, you will be able to successfully install a 5-pin XLR connector to your Broadcaster microphone, allowing you to connect it to consoles that support an On-air light. Remember to exercise caution and precision when soldering to ensure the best results.
