There may be several reasons why your iPhone is not recognizing an RØDE microphone when connected via an analogue TRRS cable, such as the SC4 or the SC7 cable, in conjunction with the Lightning to 3.5mm adapter. Here are some steps to troubleshoot this issue:
Verify the Lightning to 3.5mm Adapter
Ensure that you are using an official Apple Lightning to 3.5mm adapter.
- Third-party or generic adapters may have different wiring configurations or may be designed exclusively for wired headphones only and not external microphones.
Check the TRRS Cable
Confirm that you are using a TRS to TRRS cable, such as the SC4 or the SC7 cable, with your microphone.
With RØDE, the process is simplified as the grey side of the cable (TRRS) should be connected to your iPhone.
Reset USB Audio Accessories Settings
If your iPhone is detecting your microphone as a headphone, you may need to reset your USB Audio Accessories settings.
- First you'll need to connect your RØDE Microphone to your iPhone.
- Navigate to your iPhone's settings.
- Select ‘Sound & Haptics’
- Choose ‘Headphone Safety’
- Click on ‘USB Audio Accessories’
- Opt for ‘Forget All USB Audio Accessories’

- Disconnect the RØDE Microphone and reconnect RØDE Microphone to your iPhone.
- Lastly, when prompted 'Are you connecting a pair of headphones?' please select "Other Device"
Allow Wired Accessories Access

- Go to Settings and select Privacy and Security, then Wired Accessories.
- Within Wired Accessories, select "Always Allow"
