The supplied foam windshield helps reduce wind noise and plosive sounds while protecting the microphone capsule. It is recommended whenever the microphone is used in situations where movement or airflow may affect audio quality.
When to Use the Foam Windshield
- When recording outdoors in light wind.
- When the microphone is mounted on a handheld camera or boom.
- When speaking directly into the microphone.
- Whenever additional protection from plosives is required.
If the microphone is mounted on a stationary camera indoors with little or no airflow, you can remove the foam windshield if preferred.
Tip: The supplied foam windshield uses an acoustically transparent open cell design, helping to reduce unwanted noise with minimal impact on the microphone's sound quality.
Recording in Strong Wind
For outdoor recording in windy conditions, we recommend using the WS12 windshield for improved wind noise reduction.
