Because the VideoMic is battery powered, be sure that it is switched on with an illuminated LED before using it with a camera or audio recorder.
If you don't see the LED illuminate, try using different alkaline batteries to see if it now turns on.
These microphones are primarily designed to be connected to cameras and audio recorders. However, you can connect them to mobile devices using a TRS-TRRS adaptor such as the SC4 or SC7.
These adaptors will work with virtually every mobile device, however not every computer/laptop.
