The sound meter will display red when the signal is too loud and likely to be distorting. The optimum range for your average signal would be just entering the yellow section. It's important to ensure, there is enough headroom so that any spike or increase in volume does not push the meter into the red.
We recommend that you always set your level for the loudest possible signal.
