Our on-camera microphones include a versatile mount for attaching them to your camera's hot shoe. This mount features two rotating dials that allow for easy adjustment. This includes the SM7-R for the VideoMic NTG and the mounts on the VideoMic Pro models.
Sometimes, these dials can be overtightened or get stuck together. If this happens, don't worry—it's an easy fix!
How the Mount Works
Understanding the function of each dial is the first step.
- Top Dial: Turning this dial towards the top of the mount allows you to slide the microphone forwards or backwards to get the perfect position.
- Bottom Dial: Turning this dial towards the bottom of the mount tightens and secures the entire assembly into your camera's hot shoe, preventing it from wobbling.
If the dials become difficult to turn, one of the following simple methods will get them moving again.
Troubleshooting Stuck Dials
Both Dials are Stuck Together
This usually happens if both dials have been wound to the very top or bottom, locking against each other.
- Grip both dials firmly.
- Turn them together as one unit until they move towards the centre of the mount and feel loose.
- Once loosened, simply turn the dials in opposite directions to separate them.
One Dial is Overtightened
If you've tightened one dial too much and can't move it, you can use the second dial to get more leverage.
- Turn the free dial until it is flush against the stuck dial.
- Grip both dials firmly together.
- Follow the instruction that matches your situation:
If the dial is stuck at the top, turn both dials anti-clockwise to loosen it.
If the dial is stuck at the bottom (in the shoe), turn both dials clockwise to loosen it.
