Sometimes you can have trouble with your smartphone or tablet switching over to the external input. This workaround helps the phone detect the external input when running audio into an Android device via the SC4 adaptor.
First, plug the SC4 into the phone and then connect the 3.5mm audio cable to the SC4. When this happens your phone may think that the volume buttons are being held down, and it may put your phone into silent mode. Next, open the phone's camera app in selfie-mode and a message will appear saying external mic detected, then exit the camera app. Now, you should be able to use any app you want in order to record.
